Most owners watch while charging: plug in, open carcinema.app, pick a video from the library. The player controls are sized for the touchscreen, so no fiddling with tiny buttons.
Nothing that matters for the front screen. The original Model 3 (2017 to 2023) and the Highland refresh share the same 15-inch landscape display in the same place, and the browser is the same piece of software updated over the air. What did change is the computer behind it: cars built from late 2021 onwards moved from the Intel media computer to a faster AMD one, and the AMD cars open pages and start playback noticeably quicker. CarCinema works on both; the difference is a few seconds at the start, not whether it works.
The Highland also added a small touchscreen for the rear seats. It is a separate system with its own set of apps chosen by Tesla, and what it plays depends on market and software version. CarCinema is a website, and the front screen is where the browser lives.
It is the Tesla with the most owners on the road, and it is the one that does the most long trips on Superchargers: a Long Range Model 3 charges from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 25 to 30 minutes, which is the length of a sitcom episode. The 15-inch screen sits close enough to both front seats that two people watch comfortably without leaning.
The browser needs a connection: Premium Connectivity, or Wi-Fi from a phone hotspot. What it does not need is a good one. Because the video was prepared before you arrived, a hotspot with one bar at a service station is enough to play it and to skip around in it.
